Show and Drill Teams

Many of our customers at Horse Shadow Run enjoy the team atmosphere that our Hunter/Jumper Show Team or Drill Team provides. The top priority of our instructors and teams is for our students to have fun, learn and enjoy spending time with the horses! There are opportunities on both teams for riders of any level and anyone interested in more information on the show team or drill team can contact Ms. Melanie.

Hunter/Jumper Show Team

The Horse Shadow Run hunter/jumper show team competes at many different levels of showing to accommodate and nurture all level or riders. Currently the show team participates at TSHJA, BRHJA, NCHJA, and SCHJA sanctioned shows. The TSHJA shows are local, one-day shows and are great for riders just starting out, or for riders who compete on our lesson horses, and they also have classes for more advanced riders. The BRHJA/NCHJA/SCHJA shows are weekend long shows that many of our boarders like to attend. Riders and horses representing HSR have won numerous ribbons and awards from area show associations, and in 2013 Horse Shadow Run riders received over a dozen year-end prizes. The main objective for our show team is to learn and have fun… winning ribbons is just a bonus!

Drill Team

Each year at the Horse Shadow Run spring show, a special performance is given by the Horse Shadow Run Drill Team. These 10-12 riders, ages 8 to 15, take an extra lesson per week for three months leading to the show, learning synchronized movements as a team set to music. Riders are challenged to think quickly and ride assertively to keep the team together. This is a great opportunity for riders who aren’t ready for jumping/off-site horse shows to improve their horsemanship and teamwork, and it’s a big hit each year for over 100 spectators at the annual HSR show for our students! Riders are required to be able to tack up their own horse to participate, and be comfortable at the walk, trot and canter.
